Returned Peace Corps Volunteers for a Better WorldReturned Peace Corps Volunteers for a Better World Ad Campaign – EPIC collaborated with Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCV) for a Better World to run two half-page ads in the New York Times to demonstrate the support within the RPCV community for a peaceful resolution to the U.S.-Iraq crisis. Over 1,800 RPCVs signed the ads, which ran in February and March 2003. Since then, EPIC has continued to work with the RPCV community to raise public awareness about the humanitarian consequences of the 2003 Iraq War. Veterans for Common Sense was founded in September 2002 by EPIC and war veterans who seek a common sense approach to U.S. foreign policy – one that respects our constitutional values, basic freedoms and international law. Over 1,000 war veterans have signed on with Veterans for Common Sense (VCS) which actively opposed President Bush’s rush to war in Iraq. Since its inception, VCS has hosted two major press conferences broadcast over C-SPAN. In March 2003, VCS delivered a letter to President Bush questioning the wisdom of invading Iraq. Signed by over 900 war veterans, including high-ranking retired officers and performer Kris Kristofferson, the letter received significant press coverage. Since that time, EPIC and VCS have teamed up on a number of occasions in pursuit of common goals, including a press conference in November 2005 to call for an independent commission to investigate torture abuse. |
