Heads up! Soccer Salam has successfully made its first delivery of emergency aid and soccer balls to Iraq. The cargo included 1,000 sleeping bags purchased in bulk with donations, 1,000 blankets generously donated by Northwest Woolen Mills, and 1,000 Franklin soccer balls that we’re delivering as an expression of solidarity with the youth of Iraq.
Within the first 10 days since the kick off, our Soccer Salam team has raised more than $20,000 in donations, sponsors, and in-kind gifts. That’s $20,000 toward our goal of raising $50,000 in 50 days to help 5,000 displaced Iraqi children and families in need this holiday season.
That’s an incredible start for Soccer Salam!
Now, Iraqi kids need your support more than ever before. As temperatures drop, and with over 2 million displaced, close to 1 million Iraqis remain in urgent need for assistance with winter supplies and shelter. Many are found living out in the open, some are in unfinished buildings, whiles others live in tents in public places.
Soccer Salam offers you an opportunity to be part of an effort that will change, and save, the lives of thousands of people who have lost everything and now they are fighting for their survival, and the livelihood of their families. Today, with Soccer Salam, you have the opportunity to keep families warm, and give innocent children a chance to play. With Soccer Salam, you can be a champion, a star, and a hero.
How can you be a champ today? It’s simple:
1- Shoot a video of your coolest soccer move with a word or two to show solidarity with the youth of Iraq. Then, share your video with #SoccerSalam and nominate three of your friends to participate. Visit the Education for Peace in Iraq (EPIC) Facebook page to see examples of people showing their #SoccerSalam moves. Or,
2- Donate to support this humanitarian airlift and help us reach our goal of $50,000.
Soccer Salam depends on you and the energy you generate. So spread the word, get shooting, and let’s keep moving the ball down the field toward our goal!
